This month in Florida our children head back to high school and back to college. One of the worries on every teen parent’s mind is the safety of their new teen driver. Parking lots, kids dashing around, and early morning starts can be a lot for a new driver to handle. Share these tips with your teen driver to keep them safer on the road:
- Don’t drive sleepy. Driving while drowsy can be just as dangerous as driving while intoxicated. Make sure late nights and lengthy after school activities don’t leave you too tired to drive.
- Never text and drive. Taking your focus off the road for a second can cost someone their life.
- Pay attention to the roadway. Your surroundings on the roadway are more important than tuning the radio, plugging in your iPod or listening to your friends’ latest stories. Make sure to keep an eye out for pedestrians, especially around school.
- You can always call for a ride. If you feel too tired, nervous about the weather, or just lack confidence to make it home, don’t be afraid to call for a ride. Your safety and the safety of those around you are important.
