June is National Safety Month (NSM). The National Safety Council observes NSM every year to bring awareness to the major causes of injury and death in the United States. And even though driving is an activity most of us do without a second thought, it’s also incredibly risky.
According to the National Safety Council, more than 35,000 drivers and passengers lost their lives in car crashes on America’s roads in 2011. And the Council cites the following as the biggest three causes of accidents.
1.Alcohol, a factor in 30.8 percent of accidents.
2.Excessive speed, a factor in 30 percent of accidents.
3.Distracted driving, a factor in 26 percent of accidents.
Knowing what to do in the aftermath of a crash is important for everyone involved. Even though we might not always think about car accidents when we get into a vehicle, it pays to be aware. Take the time now to decide how you’ll react if the unthinkable happens.
