Recently, I attended a conference with a number of my attorney colleagues, regarding mass tort opioid litigation.  I left that conference with a lot of knowledge, new friends and an overwhelming sense that I needed to talk about my own experience concerning substance use disorder.

As a fairly clumsy person myself, I don’t need any help slipping and falling.  I don’t need the assistance of a business that fails to mop up a puddle or a supermarket who forgets to clean aisle three.  That is one of the reasons why I love doing what I do. As a personal injury lawyer, my job is to hold landowners accountable for their actions or inactions. I get to help people who have been injured, not through their own clumsiness, but because of someone else’s wrongdoing.

How do you make a million dollars quickly? and the answer is… you take a five million dollar case and muck it up*.

As The National Crime Victims Bar Association describes Civil Justice Training, educated victim service providers are a key to raising awareness among victims about their civil justice rights. Therefore, the National Crime Victim Bar Association conducts regular training seminars for crime victim service providers. While service providers are often well-versed in the intricacies of the criminal justice system, they are often unfamiliar with the civil justice system and how it can help crime victims rebuild their lives.
