Stanley E. Preiser
Stanley Preiser was Of Counsel to Romano Law Group from 1991 until his death in 2009. Often described as one of the greatest courtroom lawyers of the 20th century, he was inducted into the American Trial Lawyers Hall of Fame months before his death, joining such legal legends as Clarence Darrow, Thurgood Marshall and Johnny Cochran.
Stanley graduated from the University of Virginia in 1946 and earned his law degree from the University of Louisville in 1949. He achieved a Master of Law degree from New York University in 1950.
During an illustrious career that spanned seven decades, Stanley handled and litigated nearly every kind of legal dispute, including divorces, defective products, wrongful death cases, patent infringements, contract breaches and criminal defense cases. He appeared in court in more than 25 states, and obtained extraordinary results for his clients, including many record-setting verdicts. Among his many notable and high-profile cases, he successfully defended then sitting West Virginia Governor Arch Moore on extortion charges in 1976.
Throughout his extraordinary career, Stanley exhibited a passion for his clients and for the law that was unmatched. He approached every case with an unbridled enthusiasm, and he knew how to bring out the best in people in order to achieve the best results for his clients. He wrote and lectured extensively in the legal field, and was deeply committed to teaching and mentoring other attorneys to improve and strengthen the legal profession.
